The head of the Center for International Interactions of Science and Technology, Vice President of Science and Technology, believes that the sanctions have not only prevented the export of knowledge-based products, but have turned the threat into an opportunity for the increasing development of knowledge-based industries in the country
According to the Iran digital economy annotation, Mirabadi stated: in the first 6 months of this year, 650 million dollars of knowledge-based products have been exported.
In the meeting of international exchanges of science and technology and knowledge-based economy with other countries, which was held this morning (November 29), the export of knowledge-based products in the first 6 months of this year was announced at 650 million dollars. Also, according to Mirabadi, the head of the International Science and Technology Interaction Center of the Scientific Vice-Chancellor, the technology of 85 countries in the world are the export destinations of these goods.
Amirhossein Mirabadi said in this meeting: The development of international communication in the field of technology is the responsibility of the Center for International Interactions. In general, international interactions in the field of technology are pursued in four areas; Scientific communication and human capital is one of the areas that the scientific technology vice president is seriously pursuing.
He added: One of the important areas in human resources is the capacity and potential of Iranian experts abroad. Due to their interest in Iran, connections have been formed and connected to the ecosystem inside the country. We have close cooperation with the Supreme Council of Iranians.
Mirabadi said: The next area is international businesses. In the new period of the scientific vice president, the knowledge-based economy has been transformed by the president. The pillars of growth and development of international markets are also important. Extensive activities have been carried out in this field and many programs have been formulated.
Sanctions have not prevented exports and knowledge-based development
Mirabadi, in response to the question of how the export of knowledge-based goods to the countries of the world is carried out despite the extensive sanctions, and how the joint cooperation with the applicant countries is carried out, said: the sanctions are one-sided. But there are good opportunities in all countries and countries are interested in cooperation with Iran.
He added: If we can strengthen Iran’s private sector, the private sector of other countries will have both the possibility and willingness to cooperate with Iran. If Iran’s private sector cooperates with other countries, the sanctions will be less effective and even ineffective.
Mirabadi said: According to the official statistics of the Trade Development Organization, in 2021, we had about 605 million dollars of official exports of knowledge-based goods. Official exports do not include export services and many export items because they are not registered. Therefore, the recorded numbers do not include the total export.
He added: In 2022, we exported 770 million dollars of knowledge-based products. In the first 6 months of this year, 650 million dollars of knowledge-based goods were exported. Every three years we exported to more than 85 countries. The export destinations of our country are diverse and do not only include Russia and Venezuela. Many European countries are the export destinations of Iranian knowledge-based items.
He emphasized: “Maybe we wouldn’t have reached this point if it wasn’t for the issue of sanctions.” The problem of turning threats into opportunities has made us witness significant growth in the field of knowledge-based industries. Iran ranks 4th in the world in the field of nanotechnology.
The head of the Center for International Interactions of Science and Technology, Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, said: Iran’s rank is less than 10 in the field of biotechnology. In terms of technological empowerment, the Islamic Republic is among the few countries that have reached a complete self-reliance system.
We see an example of it during the Corona outbreak. We have made significant progress in the field of health equipment, medicine and even the production of vaccines. These issues did not happen overnight. Rather, the strong technology infrastructure in the country is agile and strong, and we have a high capacity in this field. Iranian products are leading in the world.
Mirabadi said: A document was compiled by the Vice-Chancellor of Science and Technology under the title of the comprehensive document on the development of international relations, which was compiled by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution. Its executive responsibility is with the Vice-Chancellor of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.
He added: Connect platform was launched for the purpose of communicating with Iran with experts and researchers abroad, and if Iranian elites abroad and elites of other countries intend to cooperate with Iran, they should register their request in this system. 1,700 requests have been registered in the Connect system.

Because according to the country’s laws, even Iranians living abroad who are subject to military service can travel to Iran twice a year for three months.
He added: “Iranian experts and elites abroad can receive an end of service card as an alternative to military service with a plan.”
Mirabadi emphasized in relation to the plan to replace military service: this card is provided to applicants for completing a project to replace military service, and this does not mean that elite Iranians abroad are exempted from military service.
