The Minister of Communications announced that the number of optical fiber covers has exceeded 7 million. He promised that in the next year this amount will be doubled and fiber optic covers will reach 14 million pieces.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, Issa Zarepour explained in an interview with Mehr News Agency: One of the most important projects pursued in the communication sector is the optical fiber project for homes and businesses. Last year at this time we had 2.5 million covers, but now the number of covers has crossed 7 million and has almost tripled. This year, we were able to add 4.5 million to the fiber optic coverage. Our effort is to double this 7 million for the next year and reach approximately 14 million.
Zarepour added: We have decided to cover the cities by the end of the government and provide this possibility to the people in all cities.
The Minister of Communications promised that the optical fiber coverage in the cities of Tehran province will be completed by September: currently, the optical fiber coverage has started in more than 40 cities of Tehran, the operators have been identified and the project has progressed by about 30%. We had meetings with the governor of Tehran and examined the problems and it was agreed that the problems of the cities of Tehran province would be solved. If the mayors and governors cooperate, we are ready to finish the fiber optic coverage of the cities of Tehran province by the government week of next year.
The country’s bandwidth is more than needed
Without mentioning the amount of bandwidth entering the country, he said: Currently, we have 2.5 times the country’s bandwidth needs, but the problem is in the access layer of the points where the demand increases, and this layer must respond to it. At the points where the traffic increases, we provide the needs of the users in a special way.
Zarepour continued: The development of the mother telecommunication network of the country is in front of us. Since the beginning of the government, more than 50% has been added to the network capacity, and God willing, this path will continue so that we can develop the network in all layers, from the access layer and the aggregation layer inside the cities.
Covering 10% of the fifth generation until the end of 1403
Regarding the progress of the fifth generation, the Minister of Communications said: God willing, by the end of next year, we will reach at least 10% of the coverage of the fifth generation from three to four percent. Regarding the tariff increase that took place, one of the conditions we set for the operators was that they should be able to reach at least 10% coverage of the fifth generation by next year.
