The Secretary of the Tehran Urban Goods Transport Union criticized the lack of oversight over cargo ads on the ‘Divar’ website, warning about the publication of ads by certain foreign nationals using rented identities on the platform.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, the ‘Divar‘ website features a wide variety of ads, with one of the most popular categories being cargo and moving services. During peak times for moving and relocation, the number of visitors to the site significantly increases. However, during these periods, unusual incidents have occurred for users of the platform, incidents that indicate a lack of oversight on the ads and the individuals posting them.
In this context, Nasir Karami, the Secretary of the Tehran Urban Goods Transport Union, commented on the issue of fake cargo ads on online platforms: ‘Unfortunately, some online platforms, like Divar, do not verify the identity of cargo advertisers regarding their identification and union license.’
He added: ‘This allows unqualified individuals and those without union permits to post ads on these platforms and exploit public trust.’
Karami noted: ‘In some cases, foreign nationals use rented identities to post fake ads, leading to problems such as extortion, blackmail, and other ethical issues when they enter people’s homes.’
New Policy of the Divar Platform
Recently, rumors have circulated that the Divar platform has introduced new restrictions for users, limiting individuals to 20 free ads per year using their national ID, with additional ads requiring payment. Additionally, certain categories like vehicles and real estate were said to allow only three free listings.
However, reports from the platform reveal that these claims are incorrect. The platform clarified that the annual free ad quota for users is 75 ads across various categories, and 75% of Divar users utilize this platform entirely free of charge. The misunderstanding about the 20 free ads was due to the fact that the free ad quota for personal items is indeed 20 ads.
Previously, users had a set number of free ads per category monthly, and if their quota was exhausted, they had to wait until the next month to use more ads. Divar has now removed this restriction. This change helps prevent the posting of duplicate ads on the platform.
Now, some users say that with this change, personal users who need more free ads during specific times (such as moving) can use their quota all at once or throughout the year. Although this adjustment has improved conditions for regular users and made it easier to differentiate between personal and commercial users.
