A Comparative Review of POS Terminals Per Person Aged 18 and Over Shows Unequal Distribution of These Payment Tools Across the Country.
According to the July report from Shaparak, the highest per-capita number of POS terminals is found in Mazandaran, Yazd, and Bushehr Provinces, while the lowest is in Sistan and Baluchestan, Lorestan, and Qom Provinces. This distribution indicates a disparity in access to electronic payment services across different regions of the country.
The report highlights that the total number of active payment acceptance tools reached over 12 million in July. Among these, internet payment tools account for over 10% of the market share, while POS terminals hold more than 89%. Furthermore, over 91% of all transactions are completed via POS terminals, compared to 6% by internet payment tools and 2% by mobile payment tools.
An analysis of the average transaction amount by transaction deciles reveals significant inequality in electronic card transaction values. This trend reflects the impact of economic changes on transaction values within the payment network. Specifically, the ratio between the first and tenth deciles shows a 54% increase on a month-to-month basis and a 53% increase on a point-to-point basis, indicating a deepening gap in transaction amounts between these deciles.
In July, Shaparak Transactions Show a 2.76% Decrease in Number but a 0.42% Increase in Value Compared to June
In July, the number of Shaparak transactions decreased by 2.76% compared to June, while the transaction value increased by 0.42%. Specifically, there was a reduction of 123 million transactions and an increase of approximately $83.33 million in transaction values compared to the previous month. However, when comparing July of this year to the same period last year, the number of transactions increased by over 3%, and the transaction value grew by more than 28%.
Despite this, after accounting for inflation, the real value of Shaparak transactions decreased by nearly 2%. In other words, inflation directly reduced the nominal value of transactions in the payment network by almost 2% from June to July. Furthermore, the real value of transactions in July showed a 2.70% decrease compared to July of the previous year. Nonetheless, the nominal value of transactions during this period experienced a growth of over 28%.
In July, the index of acceptance tools experienced an overall growth of 0.93% compared to June.
In this index, internet payment tools grew by 2.72%, mobile payment tools by 1.41%, and POS terminals by 0.72% compared to June of the current year.
This analysis shows that while internet payment tools have grown, POS terminals have faced a noticeable decline.
In the payment network, the average number of transactions per tool is 360. Accordingly, the number of transactions per internet payment tool, mobile payment tool, and POS terminal is reported as 204, 15, and 370 transactions, respectively. However, in July, the payment network faced a decrease of over 3% in this index, with the most significant change in average transaction number pertaining to mobile payment tools.
In the performance index of electronic payment companies, Saman Electronic Payment holds the top position among electronic payment companies with a 20.50% share in transaction volume and a 20.40% share in transaction value.
Accordingly, Saman Electronic Payment has secured the first place among electronic payment companies over the past two months.
In July, the difference in transaction volume and value shares between the second market company, Beh-Pardakht Mellat, and Saman Electronic Payment is 1.58% and 0.56%, respectively.
A comparison of the July report with June reveals that in terms of transaction volume share, a shift has occurred between the two companies, Farapardazan Arvand Omid and Saman Electronic Payment. Similarly, in terms of transaction value share, a shift has taken place between the two companies, Payam Novin Aryan and Sepah Electronic Payment.
In July 2024, Saman Electronic Payment maintains the highest market share with 20.77% coverage of the point-of-sale (POS) terminal transactions, the same as the previous month.
Be-Pardakht Mellat also holds the highest market shares in both internet and mobile payment tools, with 39.04% and 45.34%, respectively.
