Until now, fiber optic applicants had to pay a significant fee for fiber to their homes
According to the Iran digital economy annotation, The Minister of Communications announced that people can access optical fiber by paying for a modem. This is despite the fact that until now, significant fees were charged from the applicants for laying fiber to the beginning of the common building.
Eisa Zarepour, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, announced on the sidelines of the government board meeting that due to the competitiveness of the space, operators mostly do not charge fiber connection fees from subscribers, and compatriots can access this service by purchasing a mod.
According to him, they have put the creation of optical fiber coverage on the agenda first, and the government has allocated 1.2 million tomans for small cities and 500 thousand tomans for non-metropolitan provincial centers.
Referring to the government subsidy of two million tomans for connection, which is allocated in all cities, Zarepour said: “Of course, the costs are more than this, but the space has become competitive and mostly the operators only charge the modem fee. “Fiber laying (up to the beginning of the building) has a small fee, which is mostly not charged by the operators.”
It should be noted that people must also purchase a subscription to use the Internet over fiber optic.
The Minister of Communications also stated that in the discussion of the optical fiber project based on existing international standards, the development of optical fiber coverage to the proximity of homes and businesses has been put on the agenda so that people can use optical fiber. According to him, this is one of the commitments mentioned in the operator’s license, so that if a person applied for fiber optic service in the covered areas, he could access this service within one month at most.
It should be noted that according to the latest statistics announced in the National Optical Fiber Plan, more than 5 million households have been covered by this service, but the number of subscribers to this service is less than 500,000.
