Internet speed in Iran has been ranked 154th in the world in terms of broadband according to a new research by Cable Company of England. This data is collected based on 1.3 billion speed tests during the 12 months ending June 2023. In this report, the worst broadband internet is related to Afghanistan and the best is related to the island of Jersey, which has provided access to fiber (FTTP) for all its users.
According to Iran digital economy annotation, this research shows that Iran Internet speed is ranked in this rank with an average speed of 13.93 Mbps. Cable Company says it obtained this information by conducting 277,957 tests on 191,428 unique IPs in Iran.
The information presented in this research on the state of global broadband shows that the worst broadband internets in the world are related to the Near East region and the countries of Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria. These three countries are ranked 220th, 219th and 218th out of 220 countries with an average speed of 1.71, 1.79 and 2.3 Mbps, respectively.
The best average broadband speed is for the island of Jersey, part of the UK territory, which provides access to fiber (FTTP) for all its users. This territory is in the first place with an average speed of 264.52 Mbps, followed by Liechtenstein, Macau and Iceland, respectively, with an average speed of 246.76, 231.4 and 229.35, respectively. They have established more than 99% fiber coverage.
Western Europe has the best average broadband speed in the world
In this research, the regions under investigation and their average speed are divided into 13 world regions, according to which Western Europe is at the top with an average speed of 118.69 Mbps, followed by North America with an average of 94.02 Mbps.
The Near East region, where our country is located, is in ninth place with an average speed of 30.41 Mbps. In this region, the UAE has the best situation with an average speed of 43.62 megabits per second. According to the data of this research, it takes an average of 15 minutes and 39 minutes to download a 5 GB movie in the UAE, and it takes 48 minutes and 59 seconds to download the same size in our country.
The average speed of the world has increased by more than 30% in 2023
Overall, Cable’s data shows that the global average speed experienced a 30.04% growth compared to last year and increased by 7.41 Mbps. The world average speed last year was 46.79 Mbps and in 2022 this average will be 35.98 Mbps.
According to this data, the biggest global jump is related to 2020 and the peak of the epidemic, when the average global broadband speed increased by more than 125% from 11.03 to 24.83 Mbps.
