Iran’s Ministry of Communications and International Telecommunications Union Announce Collaboration with SpaceX’s Starlink.
According to IDEA, The Iranian Ministry of Communications has officially announced that the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has obliged SpaceX’s Starlink to collaborate with the Iranian government in providing satellite internet services in the country.
In a recent statement released by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, it was disclosed that during the latest session of the International Telecommunication Union’s Radio Regulations Board (RRB), SpaceX was mandated to cooperate with the Islamic Republic of Iran in delivering its satellite internet services.
The session, which concluded on Friday evening (October 27, 2023), scrutinized Iran’s supplementary documentation regarding the unauthorized activities of the Starlink satellite constellation within Iran. The meeting, by unanimous decision, deemed SpaceX’s satellite internet services to be in violation of international regulations. As a result, SpaceX (the owner of Starlink’s satellite internet) and the responsible nations were urged to promptly align their operations with Iran’s territorial regulations and seek the necessary permits for their activities in Iran through the regulatory authorities of the country.
