The memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the optical fiber project for homes and businesses was signed in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and the Mayor of Tehran
According to the Iran digital economy annotation, The public relations of the Ministry of Communications announced that the memorandum of understanding for the implementation of the optical fiber project in the capital city was signed in the presence of Eisa Zarepour, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Alireza Zakani, Mayor of Tehran.
The implementation of optical fiber in big cities, especially in Tehran, faces various problems, including the non-cooperation of municipalities. Previously, it was said that Tehran Municipality is interested in receiving an operator’s license; But the Ministry of Communications prefers the municipality to participate in this project in a wholesale manner.
In the news published about the signing of the optical fiber memorandum, there is no mention of the details of this memorandum and it is not yet clear how Tehran Municipality will participate in this project.
In this meeting, the Minister of Communications presented a report on the actions and achievements of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in the past two years, and emphasizing that Tehran is the most important metropolis where this project should be implemented, he said: Tehran is a metropolis that has a large population. Data space and internet service with a speed of gigabit per second is considered a basic need for this city.
He added: Our effort is to provide high-speed, high-quality and cheap services to users, which will not be achieved unless the fiber optic project for homes and businesses is completed.
About the implementation of this project in Tehran, Zarepour said: In order to remove monopoly and create competition and provide better services to the dear people, new players have entered in the supply of fiber optic service and currently 9 new operators are active in this project, and in the metropolitan cities there is a consortium of these Operators manage the project, which will be implemented in Tehran as well.
In the continuation of this meeting, Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, appreciated the actions and achievements of the Ministry of Communications in the past two years and said: As the mayor of Tehran and our colleagues, we see the municipality as the source of service delivery, and considering the transformational and large-scale plans prepared in this period We have a special look at the field of communication and information technology, especially to transform Tehran as a smart city.
Zakani continued: Therefore, it is necessary for the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to consider Tehran Municipality as its strategic partner in this project, and we are ready to fulfill our responsibilities in this project.
